Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are an exciting area of our practice! They allow you to experience the freedom from glasses with visual comfort in all areas of your daily life.   While no contact lenses will give you vision as good as your glasses, Our Optometrist uses a "functionally comfortable" approach. We will work our hardest to make sure that you are comfortable in the contact lenses themselves and that they visually perform to enhance distance, intermediate, and near work. Contact lens prescriptions are dependent many factors including: actual glasses prescription, age, dry eye syndrome, allergies, and visual demands. Contact lens fittings range from a single vision for the distance to a complex multifocal fit.

An excellent question is "What can I expect during a contact lens exam?"

During your comprehensive eye exam, your visual acuity will be tested, glasses prescription refined, and a number of tests will be performed to determine your eye health and whether prescription eyewear is necessary.

After this testing has been completed, our Optometrist will gather additional information so you can be fitted with contact lenses. our Optometrist bases your contact lens prescription on your lifestyle and preferences. For example, are you interested in daily disposables, toric to correct astigmatism, overnight wear, or colored options. Our Optometrist requires follow up visits for all new contact lens fits to ensure that you are at your maximum visual potential and to give you the ability to discuss the likes and dislikes of your particular fit.

Single Vision

Single vision correction is used to correct distance viewing. Options for single vision include daily disposable, two week, or monthly wear.

Toric Lenses

When Dr. Zaunbrecher uses the word toric, what she is referencing is the ability of the contact leneses to correct for astigmatism. For some patients, correcting the astigmatism leads to clearer, sharper vison at both in the distance and for night driving.

Presbyopic Lenses

Sometime after age 40, everyone develops a condition known as presbyopia that decreases your ability to read small print and focus on near objects. To correct this, Dr. Zaunbrecher may offer you the choice of multifocal contact lenses or monovision.

Multifocal contact lenses provide simultaneous distance, intermediate, and near vision without having to looks in certain places for the lenses to work. Unlike progressive glasses, once the contact is placed on the eye there is no need to look down the lens to read. The multifocal is already working.

Monovision is a special contact lens fitting technique where one eye is corrected for distance vision and the other eye is corrected for near vision. While monovision is successful in 80% of patients, wearing the contact lenses is a must!

Colored Lenses

Dr. Zaunbrecher only fits CIBA Air Optix colors lenses because they provide both the color change that patients are looking for but also maximize the amount of oxygen that is passed through the contact to the eye. We believe these are currently the best for both health and beauty.
